This arrived at Marvel not long after I began working on Thor in 1983. I was amazed Stan even knew who I was. It was a generous and surprisingly personal gesture on his part. Hangs on the wall of my studio, a reminder to try to do good work. Thank you, Stan. Excelsior, indeed.

That's so cool. I know Lee also wrote a letter to the Thor letter columns talking about what a great job you were doing on Thor at the time. I believe Lee's letter appeared in Thor #347.

I'm not surprised Stan kept reading Thor on occasion even into the 80s. I think that book was one he always enjoyed reading more than writing - and that's why he let Jack and Larry do a lot of the early stories even when he was still directly involved.

I had the privilege of meeting Stan several years ago in a cafe in Beverly Hills and he was nothing but kind and gracious...

I said it then and I’ll say it here - I thanked him for being responsible for bringing me more hours of enjoyment than any other person on this planet - thank you Stan - YOU were the superhero all along.
