Important point, but also: if a candidate switches parties, their voters need to switch it as well or they will surely be left out. That isn't mentioned often enough.

You have to pay and fill out the paperwork for each state to get on the ballot, if you don't do that by the state's deadline you are not on the ballot. Dems and Repubs do this the other parties obviously don't.
