He is failing but unwilling to listen to any advisors. He has convinced most if his base that the CIA and FBI are enemies as well a the press and the Democrats. To turn his base against all of these and other countries shows how much he does not understand about his role.

I disagree. The President's audience is 42-46% of the American electorate. His tough talk, though bereft of geopolitical strategy, is for the sole benefit of his base. They could not tell Iran from Iraq and are orgasmic with all this macho talk. You of all people should know.

Just because he can continue to appeal to his base doesn’t mean he generally knows what he’s doing. He doesn’t. Having a kindergarten diploma qualifies one to understand their thinking.
