I've gave Jake so much crap when I was a Republican, and I understand why he has to ask these tough questions. We need a transparent government who up holds the law, a standard for both sides.
Thanks to @jaketapper for continuing to ask the question that Republicans won’t answer: “Is it acceptable for the President of the United States to ask a foreign government to investigate his political rival?”
Jake asked it again this am, and again, a Republican wouldn’t answer.

The follow up question if it is ok for a Republican to ask for foreign help, foreign investigations of opponents, are democrats equally free to do so, doesn't this open the exact pandora's box founders feared?

We're talking about a sitting President - not a candidate - who abused the power of his office and held crucial aid hostage for a political favor meant specifically and solely to destroy a domestic political rival. This is Putinesque, autocratic, and corrupt. No equivalency.

My answer would be "No" if that is all he was doing, but it is acceptable for POTUS to ask a foreign government to investigate potential corruption from a previous administration. Regardless if someone from that administration is also a political rival.

They can’t because answering goes to the heart of the issue: this is about national sovereignty over our own elections. The wall, the trade war, etc are supposedly about sovereignty & less foreign influence. But they think it’s ok to obliterate sovereignty over sacred elections.
