Okay Twitter whānau, I've put it off but its time to delve into the magic that is Aberdein's as part of my research. Lets begin by analysing this fantastic cover (I mean this both sarcastically and from a media studies perspective!)

I have so many feels relating to this. It's one of the reasons I am loving the Tuakiri therapy I'm doing as it is a lot about building your identity even if your whakapapa is still hidden.

First journal article of the year submitted for review. Hopefully the terror of pressing submit will lessen as I get more xp. Time to go hide away for the rest of the day I think. Thank you for all your support with getting this article to submission stage.

Learning languages that have been violently stolen from us can never be “just” academic or a hobby. A lot of folk really don’t understand the trauma indigenous peoples who don’t speak our ancestral languages have to unpack as we try to learn and reclaim our reo.

"Teach them about the New Zealand Wars, the Tohunga Suppression Act, Rua Kenana, Parihaka, Bastion Point. These are all connected to Te Tiriti. They show how different understandings led to (and still lead to) injustice and conflict."

... The governor shook hands with the republic's new president and prime minister while several of the Englishwomen, wives of senior officials, quietly wept." Seriously one of the best descriptions of the colonial experience I've read!

...and Burmese notables were already assembled expectantly against the charcoal sky. Speeches were given, the Union Jack was lowered for the last time, and the new flag of the Union of Burma was hauled up, the faces of the young Burmese politicians beaming with happiness...

For some reason this reminds me of 's description of the bringing down of the Union Jack in Myanmar following independence: "Sir Hubert's Rolls-Royce (now with a collector in Baltimore, Maryland) finally turned into Fytche Square, where a small party of British...

If you're going to call every new person of color or white woman a "diversity hire" then you also have to call every new white man a "privilege hire". Don't blame me, those are just the rules.

Made a gif to express how I feel about Waitangi Day. Until we change the fundamental structure of this government, we will only ever continue to play colonial whack-a-mole. Enjoy the nice breakfast, sausage sizzle and pretty speeches.

I was the cheerleader who dated a member of the 1st 15 but spent her time playing D&D with the nerds, read romance & sci-fi novels, listened to Motorhead, Enya & Scottish Bagpipe music & learnt Irish Gaelic poetry during Physics class. Still the oddball now I guess :)

A fantastic way to unwind for the end of the week. A relaxing massage followed by delicious dinner and a smoking sundae. Thanks for the fantastic company . It's been an awesome evening!

And that is why Jack has OCD. And why it remains important to me that Kade didn't know he was a boy when he went to Prism. And why Cora is fat. And why every character is who they are. Because those people exist in the real world, and deserve to exist in fiction, too.
