Let’s discuss this video from WaPo clip-by-clip...because it’s got some problems.pic.twitter.com/HglmecxAgL

The Fix
What Bernie Sanders used to say about superdelegatesIn 2016, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Democratic superdelegates should vote for a candidate with fewer pledged delegates. In 2020, he said the opposite.Pokaż ten wątek -
The first clip is from a Meet the Press interview in March 2016. After the part you saw, Sanders was asked if he thought he should be the nominee with a minority of pledged delegates. He refused to speculate, saying he believed he would win a majority of pledged delegates.

The 2nd clip is from May 1, 2016. WaPo did not include the part of Sanders’ speech where he makes clear his pitch isn’t to superdelegates from states Clinton won big; that he wanted those from states he won and perhaps those from tossups who see him as stronger.pic.twitter.com/TVpPLlJBNa

The 3rd clip is one where you could make the case that Sanders is suggesting that perhaps the stronger candidate, not the pledged delegate leader, should win. But context matters. WaPo cuts out the part where Sanders says superdelegates lining up behind Hillary hurt the process.pic.twitter.com/Xd1Z1EfGSy

The 4th clip, from 5/29/16, Sanders suggests he’s appealing broadly to superdelegates. But that same day—at the same location—in another interview with Face the Nation, Sanders reiterated that he was not targeting superdelegates from states Clinton won big. Just those he won.pic.twitter.com/wlMcIbA3NW

In 5th clip from about a week later, it sounds like Sanders is suggesting he’s okay overturning the pledged delegate leader with superdelegates. But the follow up question WaPo left out asked if the whole pitch was really about power over the platform. Sanders seems to confirm.pic.twitter.com/DZXGESvbKi

But let’s go back for a moment. In this clip from May 1, 2016, Sanders says he’s not targeting superdelegates from states Clinton won big. This sentiment was echoed again on May 29, 2016. Then in June he all but acknowledges he simply wants a say in the platform.pic.twitter.com/IulJ0sa6iw

None of this is comparable to what Warren is suggesting. Warren has not won a state. Distant 3rd is the best she’s done. She’s not projected to win any upcoming states. She doesn’t outpoll the field against Trump. But she should be the nominee via brokered convention?

Also, this primary is as close to democratic as Dems have seen...probably ever. The superdelegates are not a factor in the first vote, no one candidate owns the DNC, and there’s transparency—largely thanks to the efforts of Sanders’ folks on the URC. It is not like 2016.

Warren is losing because she’s losing. Bitter pill for some, but the reality nonetheless. It’s hard to imagine her continuing on after Super Tuesday barring some miracle.
