I spent Memorial Day talking to my Mother about our Military ancestors. Today, I'm honoring my Grandfather, John Andrew Dawson, who fought in WWII as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army. Some of the pictures attached were from his time in the Philippines.

After the war ended, he came home to a beautiful family... but he was never the same. One morning years later, he kissed my 11 year old Mother on the forehead while she slept, left the house, and committed suicide.

I never met my Grandfather, but I was raised by the two women he tragically left behind. For years, I've wondered how his death may have changed the course for my Grandmother, Mother, and later my sister and I.
