Thank you for following WW1 Soldier’s Tale. For a short summary of what happened to our characters after the armistice visit:

So, listen. I’m signing off now. Thanks for sticking it with me. And Lily said 'yes'!

Watching the CO's watch tick round. 10.57, 10.58, 10.59, 11.00... That's it. God, it's sunk in this time. It's really, truly over! I made a promise that if I made it through, I'd do this one last thing - Lily, will you marry me?

A few minutes ago the colonel told us the armistice will begin in one hour, at 11.00. We all just stood there. It’s a strange feeling. Like your elastic snapped. I think we just can’t truly believe it. It's over.

We made it across! We’d all but resigned ourselves to what was coming and then got to the riverbank to hear the enemy had completely disappeared! The worst part was crossing the rubble, look:

Continuing the advance despite good news about the Kaiser. Supposed to be crossing a river but there could still be enemy soldiers waiting for us. I don’t fancy our chances. Still, it’s my duty. No turning back now…

The Kaiser has abdicated. It's a strange feeling, knowing he's gone - he's the one we've been angry at the last four years. Well, good riddance. Maybe the end is near after all.

Managed to bury Reg, as well as you can in this rain. His is devastated like the rest of us. Oh, and we've been told to look out for white flags - apparently the are surrendering in their droves. Too late for Reg though isn't it?

I don’t believe in luck anymore. Just when you start to get your hopes up, something like this happens - Reg has been killed. Funny, clever, honest old Reg took a bullet. Ambushed during the advance. Read what happened:

Austria-Hungary has signed an with Italy! Can’t believe it. They were the first to declare war in 1914 – the ones who asked Germany to step in in the first place. Do you really think this could be it?

We're in the line but no enemy activity. Some of the lads reckon the war will end soon, but I'm not so sure. Rose's seem to think the end is near though - they've been dancing with at a party, look:

Turkey has surrendered! Fantastic news. And their prisoners of war should be released soon too. Just need Germany and Austria-Hungary to do the same...

My shoulder’s sore but at least I don’t have any flu symptoms. Have had to send so many men off for treatment so I’m always keeping an eye in case I feel shivery. Seems it’s the same back home but the papers are trying to make light of it.

Having a small wound seen to - could have been a lot worse. We were advancing but I don't even know when I got hit. You don't feel it in the heat of the moment. Read the full account:

They're going to let women become MPs at home. The said there must be “one woman in the country as capable as the least capable of male members.”

Tough day today. Making our way forward along a path but no one had counted on the enemy being holed up there - only narrowly avoided a massacre. Read what happened:

I've cheered up no end - I saw my brother Ed in ! I barely recognised him and he barely recognised me - this war has changed us both. So good to see him though.

Turns out my brother wasn't far behind our advance yesterday. A blast sent him flying and he smashed his out! Hard to eat the food out here without your pearly whites...

I'm trying my best to be positive about the last couple of days. We captured our objective...but lost 20 men with hundreds injured. Everything comes at a price out here.
