Opinion: Vocational education will not succeed so long as culture and public policy consign it to second-class status, writes @oren_casshttps://on.wsj.com/2wSuvBN

Agreed! The craftsman redoing my house with pride and precision deservedly drives a new Mercedes. But he’s aging out leaving a vacant generation of trades people. Robots will never replace good plumbers, electricians, carpenters et al.

Robots? I'm seeing a decline in workers who can properly install flooring, dishwashers, shower stalls. Had workmen out here to put vinyl coving in my kitchen who used a hot glue gun from a craft store. Coving fell off the wall within days. His boss had to come out & make it right

Lol. We ALL have those stories. My point is that we need better crafts people who get trained, licensed and referred by someone other than Angie’s list. How did the workmanship decline so badly?

My kids were advised by HS career counselors to pursue computer sciences. My daughter wanted to be a costume designer & the counselor threw up her hands & offered no further help. I imagine if every kid was told to aim for computer-related jobs, that explains it in part.

I think vocational-technical education will succeed for those who do not want to sit in anthropology and sociology classes. That is because students will learn how to do something. These days, finding people who know how to do something is hard, and they get paid well.

Vocational schooling won't make students go thousands of dollars in debt. Most of the jobs after vocational training have a livable wage.

I can understand this argument, but America starts to accept you once you got money. Bankers, Coders, those weren't cool until they started earning money.

With colleges being the liberal brainwashing daycare that they are it's definitely better to go to vocational school! Better education!

So much to this. I don't disagree at all though. Very different mindset than when I went to school.
