I understand science, but what is with this headline specifically calling out women tho?

It's just irresponsible headlining which leads some people to "blame women" who can't asexually reproduce

It wasn’t an argument, more of an observation that a lot of people who are in their childbearing years feel like their income isn’t sufficient to raise children in this economy. With the collapse of the middle class, economic uncertainty, limits on collective bargaining...

we will see more disparity between the rich and poor as the newly ratified tax plan begins to take full effect. Our economy is rigged to benefit those at the top at the expense of those at the bottom. It doesn’t seem to be causal but it is interesting to note that in the 1970s...

the compensation for CEOs started growing 90x faster than typical worker pay. We have now entered an era where at least 20% of the work force is made up of contractors, who don't have access to decent health insurance, benefits or consistent pay.

It is expensive to have children. Just to give birth to a healthy child it can cost $10-16k, not to mention the cost of raising a child which can cost about $14K annually. Women are not helped or supported by businesses or legislatively with maternity leave or childcare.

The US is the only industrialized nation without a paid national leave policy for mothers. Childcare can be prohibitively expensive. $11.5K+ per year, this can make it not worth it for some women to work. But if they don't work, who supports them?

Marriage comes with its own tax penalties for working women if they aren't breadwinners. There is a plethora of compounding factors that make child-rearing prohibitively expensive. If the median household in the US is $58K, you start doing the math and it doesn't add up.

It's like wages have stagnated for forty years, while costs of prenatal/maternity care, cost of living, and overall inflation have skyrocketed or something.
