The better way to go would be to make manufacturers responsible for taking back their goods and packaging for recycling. They might then be more environmentally responsible. Make the producer pay not the consumer.

I agree with your point. However, The consumer will still pay at the end of it all.

If demand drops, why should the price increase? Absurd! This industry, which is completely passive, needs to step out and show me increased incentive. If it costs more - why would I recycle?

Most plastics are simply processed crude oil. Means we need more research on making new products from recycled plastics, to reduce the demand for new crude.

It’s also due to changes in packaging and consumption. We’re using products that cost more to recycle (plastics) versus paper based products.

Which means local tax hikes if you're like me and have publicly funded waste removal.

Single stream killed recycling. "You can't unscramble a scrambled egg." You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. You get the point....

I knew this was coming. When my family’s recycling containers flanked and outgrew our household trash on a weekly basis....

And WHY aren’t the producers paying an Externality Tax? Producing waste left to the consumer to get rid of once they buy their product. Come on people, economics is NOT that hard.

Municipalities must continue to slog ahead with mixed use recycling and make efforts to envelope all non-residential enterprises. Incentives and inducement need to be inacted to encourage better packaging use and design

It’s amazing just how short-sighted people can be. Where on earth, & on what products, is everyone going to spend their $ millions when our planet, and everything nature produces, is practically dead? Destroying our planet for $.... WTF?!

Higher municipal tipping fees to process recyclable refuse will cause smaller towns to return to landfills as they will not be able to afford refuse handling plants as China is cutting back significantly on buying US recycled materials this will hit NE hard.
