        This graph would be even more meaningful if it was more than two lines. I believe that the Democratic Party of the 1960s-70s was a LOT more liberal than it was at the turn-of-the-century. And ALL politics became more conservative after “9/11”.

        Frankly the real issue here is how few moderate/liberal Republicans there are. The Ds aren't moving THAT much to the left, it's Rs moving so far right that Ds don't identify with conservatives anymore bc what it means to be conservative has changed in last 20 years
