With its engine in the trunk, the Corvair was Chevrolet's response to the Volkswagen Beetlehttps://on.wsj.com/2KmClGh

Porsche lasted longer then the Corvair. Never forget Germany builds better Cars,SUV's,Trucks and Motorcyles then America , Japan and Italy together. Because German Vehicles are built base on the Autobahan. GVR( German Vehicles Rule!)

They remind me of the cars at Disneyland. My mom had one and my boyfriend had one modified into a badass lowrider. Only in America! .

I owned four of them from ‘87-‘95. Cool, alternative classic, but even though my post-Nader cars fixed some blatant safety flaws, they were horribly unsafe. Lap belts and no head restraints would make small accidents deadly. All cars from that era were unsafe. #airbags

It wasn't a response to the beetle... It was a study for a new way of doing things...

It may have been unsafe, but cars have never been safer and our drivers never dumber.
