Well, if Laffer says so, then it must be true. He was so spot-on in Kansas.

Dude @wsj just because he's a big name in Republican orthodoxy doesn't mean you need to publish this BS. "California and New York have jointly lost more than 2.2 million residents" in the last decade. In reality, both have grown substantially. Come on.

Selective facts. 2.2M probably left because they couldn’t afford the state. Meanwhile many more millions migrated to those states who are better educated / wealthier.

I live in upstate ny. We are losing population and the only reason it is not dropping faster is because of immigration. Typically not wealthier, but perhaps seeking education due to our universities. But no one can dispute the fact people are leaving NY

This is not some new phenomenon. People have migrated throughout the country since its inception. Out in the West I’ve seen great changes in Portland, Salt Lake City, Vegas, Reno, Boulder and others. The West has never been stronger b/c of the out migration from Cali.

Yes, and that's because people leave for better opportunity elsewhere. Upstate ny is lacking economic opportunity due to rough business climate, and it's expensive to live here.

If the business climate is rough why is it expensive? What’s driving the demand for high cost of living?

Taxes. We have one the highest property tax rates in the nation. Plus an upcoming $15 minimum wage driving up prices for the low wage businesses that are here. Dont get me wrong, its a great place to live, and Im blessed with a good paying job, but I don't know how many ppl do it

Are they really a problem at the state level though? It's all spent on stuff people want.

More people moving out of New York State than are moving in, and suspect California population helped more by incoming low income immigrants, than higher income techies who're leaving for Texas.

The holes in this analysis are big enough to drive the moving van thru. Straight to CA where I just moved. That they refers to states as red or blue based on taxes is all u need to know about this agenda based article.

In 1960 NY had 45 electoral votes. FL 10. Today both have 29. Somebody is going somewhere.

Problem is in red state they EXPECT same freebies, don't get them & elect Democrat. Think about it. Look at NH. Biz owners that can work remotely movibg to FL etc to escape MA transplants that WANT town/state services, Me- go to the dump? No way.. town should provide, taxes go up

Yes that’s true due to the cynical politically motivated tax scheme approved last year but guess what, all those Democrats will start swaying elections in more purple & red states. The law of unintended consequences. Florida anyone?

I wonder if they realize liberal Californians and New Yorkers heading to red states means Texas will turn blue in a decade and we'll never have a Republican president again 🤔

Those bloody millions better migrate to Nicaragua,Venezuela,Cuba, Russia,Africa or a place they are politically more aligned with. They are not welcome anywhere else under any circumstances unless they disavow & agree to do penance for their destructive mindset, activism etc.
