Sharing your DNA even for something like a genealogy site, is a risk. It goes into a database that is freely shared. Word to the wise, if you’re curious about your genealogy and send in a swab, don’t commit a crime. I have ethical issues with these sites.

What’s somebody gonna do with it? Google me or look me up in a phone book, you’ll find out much more about me - all publicly available and I don’t really care.

They are used by courts. They are accessible by health insurance companies. You need to understand what they do and the implications.

What do they do? Have at it.

It’s up to you to research it. Stop being so lazy. I understand it’s hard, but try.

You can be damn sure insurance execs are considering how to use DNA databases to exclude or charge more for coverage as we speak. Matter of time.

Website was a public source of info police used to catch a killer. Sure, put some rules in place if they're needed but ppl need to get a clue abt managing their own privacy. For starters, don't upload anything to a public site you don't want the public to see, hm?

I'm not necessarily blaming the entities. Surely they disclose. But they are third parties subject to subpoena. Fourth amendment not implicated here.

This is why. The time will come when people regard this type of evidence so infalible even if the results are wrong.https://www.wired.com/story/dna-transfer-framed-murder/ …
