'As a viable alternative to democracy, Beijing has something to offer that Moscow and Budapest, to say nothing of today’s Washington, can only gesture toward: consistent, practical results for the majority.'https://on.wsj.com/2I2uZXI

England’s monarchy in 1776 offered consistent and practical results for the majority. Our forefathers chose a different way, with emphasis on individual liberty.

The Chinese model is only as consistent as the lifespan of the person in charge. Once that person goes six feet under, all is up for grabs. It is too soon to call China a success story. Recall the Soviet Union once received similar praise for growth and "getting things done".

Can authoritarianism ever be pragmatic? Is it pragmatic and efficient when it comes to shutting down Christian and Buddhist holy sites and replacing religious images with images of XI - the new Communist god?
