Many drivers seem not to grasp that the vehicle they control is capable of inflicting huge amounts of carnage. They drive with the abandon of Mario Kart

The increase in distracted driving/cell phones has to be a big part of this.

Bicyclists don't kill drivers. It's the other way around. It's drivers who need the most education

True. However, bicyclists need to decide if they are pedestrians or vehicles and follow the rules just as any other pedestrian or vehicle. They tend for follow neither and ignore both.

This can't become universally true, so drivers need to realize their two-ton machines are capable of killing any human on a bike, even those who make bad decisions

I think the number of “bad” bikers is much higher than you estimate. As a motorcyclist I understand that I’m more vulnerable so I am an extremely defensive driver on the roads. At least I had the have additional training to get my motorcycle endorsement. Bicyclist have none.

That goes both ways... I actually had a biker hit my car as I was driving to work.

With all due respect, that’s not a fair comparison. Even if “bikes hit cars” at the same rate that people in cars hit people on bikes, cars spend a day in the body shop. People on bikes go to the hospital or the cemetery.

Bicycles don't belong on the road.

these flowers people leave in a few days, the flowers rot, but because they are a mix of plastic and rotted veg, they can't be recylced these memorials are therefore really stupid ways for people to feel good abt themselves, rather then actually doing anything

Weekly, as I commute to and from work in downtown Minneapolis, I have to brake hard as bikers go through red lights. There are bike lanes on every other street yet bikers use the non-bike lane streets during rush hour and go down the middle of the lane.

You don't need to be on a bike to experience how aggressive (and entitled?) some drivers are. Constantly amazed while driving at the actions some take to cut a few seconds off their trip or the quick rage at being impeded in some way. 1/

As technology progresses, at what point will insurance companies decide to offer customers a product that determines rates based on behavior (acceleration, quick stops, lane changes, lane changes unnecessarily close to other cars, etc.) that goes beyond the Progressive thing?

Also follow the transit rules that govern motor vehicles, since you’ll be riding next to them. Some drivers I’d say, drive like animals, so cyclists, stay focused and safe.
