Kendrick Lamar needed a Pulitzer to validate his craft like he needed the $15,000 prize that comes with it to bulk up his bank account. He’s fine either way.https://on.wsj.com/2HNvMMj

Agreed. People who wouldn’t normally care about the award are now talking about it. Myself included.

yeah and we shouldn't even be giving awards based on who "needs" them, just give someone an award if they do really good shit #ainthard

@WSJ @cjfarley Christopher John Farley, the author of the article, is a hater and will never win a Pulitzer. It's always a black man hating on another black man, Got damn shame

If we're not most critical of each other, who will be? I criticize Ta-Nehisi Coates all the time, and own all three of his last books, bought at full price.

No one “needs” a Pulitzer. Why make this distinction? Slow news day?

There’s a good chance as an artist he’s proud of the achievements he’s made. As a fan of rap since the 80s, it’s absolutely incredible to see how far the genre has come. Just because rap is now mainstream enough to be covered by the WSJ, doesn’t mean it didn’t have humble roots.
