It’s NOT an entitlement when you’ve paid for it!!!

If you get more out than you pay in it is an entitlement. With few exceptions people get much more out than they pay in. Some people pay in nothing and still get the benefits so yes it is an entitlement.

I disagree with “few exceptions,” but grant that some may earn more than they paid and some may not. Regardless, I have no choice but to pay, and the government has promised to pay benefits in return - which people have structured their retirement around.

If I buy an annunity with a fixed payment and plan my retirement around that payment, is it fair for the company that sold it to me to waste my investment, complain that I am making too much, and then cut my payment?

Not a good analogy. Some annuities can lose money. I have no problem with the government paying out what people paid in. However what you don't pay in is COLA adjustments, and SSDI pays far more out than is paid in, as does Medicare. These pay as u go are bankrupting the country

The only annunities that lose money are variable - I assume the SS fund is not structured that way but simply buys T Bonds. The country is being bankrupted by endless tax cuts and bloated defense spending - why is taking food and healthcare from the elderly always option 1?

SS doesn't "buy" anything. When the government takes excess funds out the put in IOUs dor Treasuries. BTW the SS fund has been running a deficit and is expected to continue to run a deficit. There are fewer workers now than recipients. Govern't has to BORROW to cover the deficit

Good! We seniors struggle to survive while Congress continues to give themselves raises. No decent COLA for seniors however! We depend on Medicare for healthcare ! No Changes that hurt us! Sad! 😢
