Most people don't realize that welfare recipients often live in places that are called "food deserts" or places with fresh nutritious food is rare or unavailable. Many other things need fixed before this could be a reality

Taxpayers should NOT be buying endless amounts of soda, chips and candy for people on SNAP. The NUMBER ONE item paid for under SNAP is soda pop.
-
Sugary beverages are extremely high in calories, something that the human body craves when under tremendous stress or near starvation
-
While this is true if we can educate others that you can find these sugars in natural foods as well such as Fruits

-
Education is a big part, but so is price, accessiblility, human instinct and spoilage. The idea of welfare should be to help people move towards a better life, so often it feels like we'd rather punish them
-
Yes, I agree. Often we punish those, though to say instinctively we choose foods that make us sick takes away that we have free will to fight that as well. Convenience is key, though again educating can also show the pros and cons and make wiser choices. Please explain spoilage.

Dried beans and greens are not expensive.
-
Find a store in the Bronx that sells these cheaper than junk
-
A bag of beans is less than two dollars (even on Amazon) and you can buy carrots and greens for not much more. Perhaps a little effort is needed. One should make at least the smallest effort toward good health especially when it’s for the health of children.
-
You need a credit card to have Amazon, and carriers won't leave packages in rough neighborhoods, making deliveries tough for working people (most SNAP recipients work). That Amazon is your solution indicates you don't understand the lives of working poor people.
-
Amazon is not my solution, but prices were at my finger tips, so I used it as a source.
-
Ok. Then you should know that the closest grocery store with a good produce department might be an hour travel-time away on public transit, and you have to carry everything you buy. Produce is the worst option, calorie-for-dollar.
-
It might be difficult, it might be a challenge; however, it’s not an impossible situation — not even close.

But in the end it is the most expensive, especially for those who end up footing the bill.
-
You are as dumb they come....Just look at you....The eyes never lie.
-
So...you don’t have a counter argument at all, just an insult.
