Math has been taught incorrectly and counter-productively for my 56 years in education. It will only get worse as many colleges are eliminating their math majors and math graduates do not become teachers. The vast majority of math courses are remedial.

Here is a simple 3-step plan guaranteed to improve math scores in NYC: 1. Double teacher pay, retirement benefits, and union dues 2. Increase cross sectional studies 3. Combine bathrooms

Reading writing and arithmetic once the children are taught those skills other topics can be addresses. It’s the equivalent of the mayor traveling overseas with the potholes left unfilled. Take care of basics first even though it’s not sexy or fun,

No shit, but still you push gender studies and sociology with a minor in Poli. Sci, as desirable degrees. What did you expect???

This is non-sense. Kids intelligence is sharpened by giving them tasks to think for themselves, by giving them challenges in an open environment. Why should everyone study math like a robot. Let each pursue/excel where their propensities lie and not some artificial math Whizkids.

This is because there are not very many people who can teach math and keep it interesting and engaging.

The schools need to get rid of Common Core. It fucked everyone up when it was introduced. Now that I’m in college, math has never been easier, I’m moving onto Trigonometry next semester. The teachers are very interactive and wont stop until everyone understands, simple concepts too

America, as a whole, is "not where we need to be" on all forms of education. People wonder why anti-intellectualism and outlandish ideas are running rampant in our country. This lack of education is why.
