Seems that the current focus is on use of lithium (chemical) battery technology with electric motors as an alternative to internal combustion engine vehicles. Whilst hydrogen is the cleanest of fuels it seems to be neglected by many companies/shareholders!

Unfortunately almost all hydrogen is made from natural gas with carbon emissions as a significant byproduct. So not as clean or #Green as it is portrayed.

Doesnt need to be made this way. Electrolysis of water is a very elegant way of making hydrogen.

In reality, almost all hydrogen is made from natural gas (with carbon emissions) because electrolysis of water isn't elegant, it's massively inefficient, wasting up to 75% of the energy input. That's why only 4% of all hydrogen is made that way. It's just too wasteful.pic.twitter.com/MXXbj4gCxa

Thanks for sharing. That is a very interesting graph. There are massive losses in most electricity transmission networks, do you know if that is considered in the graph? It is easy to produce H2 at the source of electricity and pipe/rail/truck it to the user.

It's even easier to produce electricity at source and store it directly into an electric car battery without the 75% losses inherent to the electrolysis process.

Also, compressing and then piping or trucking H2 to the end user requires even more energy to compress the gas and then significant infrastructure, and yes even more energy, to actually pipe or truck the gas.

May Big Oil find it and may it contribute to American energy independence.
