I love that the Pope is shaking the status quo and challenging those whom have grown up in a consensus of what is “righteous” & “holy”.

True, but incomplete for many people. Our faith is meant to lived body, mind and soul. In all areas. Being pro-life but meeting the poor without compassion is only living half the gospel message.

If the Pope sold off even a fraction of the treasures in the Vatican to make a dent in poverty, he’d be more credible.

That’s a tired canard and rabbit hole. The poor are interested in culture and beauty. I was poor growing up, and visits to museums and beautiful places to see “treasures” were indispensable to the poor like me. The Catholic Church as patron of the arts has always known this.

Have you been to the Vatican? Way too many spoils of questionable means. Even though I’m a practicing Catholic, I find it hard to defend not selling a portion of it to museums all over the world for everyone to enjoy, as proceeds help the poor.

I have, it’s beautiful. Can you specify a spoil of war owned by the Vatican of the “questionable” variety that you mention? Looking for specifics, thanks. The Vatican has its own museum, it’s hard to miss it. Much of the proceeds going to charitable ends.

Dig deep and research about the origins of all the treasures. I can’t do it in a tweet. In any event, it’s my opinion that Jesus would rather the poor be enriched, and museums all over world house many of the valuables, for the many that can’t affors to go to Rome. Peace

Let’s not presume to speak for Jesus, who rebuked Judas for scolding the woman who bought expensive oil to anoint his feet with. Again, having grown up poor and working more than six years to afford to go there as an adult, I can assure you that I was happy to see all that I saw.

Apparently as long as you and others are aesthetically pleased, you can justify the dichotomy of the vast treasurses horded by the Vatican as they profess others to re-distribute their wealth. We all answer to God ultimately. I don’t presume to speak for Him, but I know His Word

Still waiting for a specific example. People who make allegations are usually eager to back those up. And the art doesn’t engage only aesthetically, but spiritually and intellectually as well. The poor benefit from beauty and culture, I sure did.

No they don't. How in the world did you come to this conclusion? Pro life clinics which support women during and post pregnancy by far outnumber "women's clinics" that only do abortions.

I do not feel he is saying abortion is not a critical conversation, but rather some may place too much focus on this one issue of our faith. Catholic Social Teaching goes well beyond abortion. It does little good to protect a child to birth, but ignore its life thereafter.

How to illustrate for our Pope, the greater priority of ending abortion over migrant issues? Perhaps if the mangled bodies of the roughly 4,000 babies killed daily by abortion were lined up at our southern border with Mexico.

Read the article. please. He never said it was greater priority. @Pontifex said that if a politician is pro-Life but ignores the poor, needy, etc., then he is playing politics and only living half the gospel message.

Simply responding to WSJ article headline “Pope Says Fighting Poverty is as Essential as Opposing Abortion.” I believe that it clearly is not, although fighting both not mutually exclusive.
