Own an RV. Researched Elkhart when looking for parts. I'm not sure I've seen a town with worse reviews of workplaces in an industry the town depends on for survival. For the country to follow suite would be terrible for tourism, but great for bagged booze market. just sayin'

Perhaps. But Elkhart does have a past that may have many specific employees to not stay and relocate.

I live in city closest to Elkhart, and this article sounds like it was paid for by the mgmt of those RV manufacturers that were mentioned. No regular unskilled worker makes $90,000 a year in Elkhart. $60,000 is attainable, but that’s 6 days of work a week as a welder.

Maybe, as in the Depression years, people will move to where there are jobs?

Good article, but I find in unlikely that cities in the rest of the country can adopt a similar rebound in selective industries without their unique economic circumstances. Interesting that Obama era policies helped to save this predominately Conservative city.

Can RV sales actually be sustainable? Once everyone buys one and finds there is no room at the parks to use them they become white elephants.

Since the deductible for the interest rates on travel trailers goes away with the beautiful tax cuts, fewer people will be able to afford that camper.https://www.google.com/amp/rvlife.com/new-tax-bill-2018/amp/ …

This is sustainable long term. It’s a nice feel-good story however.
