Looks a lot like she walked into the no escape zone at that speed and no different/human driver would have stopped in time. Though it could be said it should have detected her moving on the side and preempted it by moving to the side of the lane or slowing.

There’s not a person in the world that could have stopped that, autonomous or not. Just a freak accident.

Very unfortunate for pedestrian and I feel for the loved ones that must now deal with her death...but, the pedestrian in this case surely saw headlights coming and chose to take the risk. Wait for the toxicology report.

Looked as if the human safety operator was looking down ... most likely looking at his phone ... making him a ‘distracted’ human no so safe operator! Very sad and tragic result.

Where is human kinds compassion. There is a family suffering this loss. Johnny Q public has no right to view the death of someone’s loved one.

You cannot have this anywhere in America, sorry. Too many people everywhere at any moment. The population is not ready for this and expect cars to stop for them. Autonomous vehicles are death machines.

My 10 yo son is Blind, he will never drive and his only chance at living a normal mobile life are these cars. They are probably already safer but will certainly be so shortly. And who walks in front of a moving car. You look both ways before crossing the road.

Joe sorry for ur son. But I would advocate for advanced vision technology rather then autonomous vehicles. The general public is unaware of this advancement and is hazardous. Death is imminent. There is no privelege greater than the gift of life itself.

Do you know how many people die in crashes on the roads each day. Self driving cars will eliminate almost all of that. Is there going to be a transition while the technology is perfected? Of course, if we stop every time something is dangerous, we would still be in caves.

There is still manned space craft. All we need is smarter cars that communicate between each other, hence wifi satellite internet. This tech is avail and being surpassed at an aggressive pace. LiRAD is faulty. Random pedestrians and animals not detected.
