While it isn’t clear yet whether Uber’s vehicle was at fault in the accident, the fatality confirmed the fears of those who have warned for several years that someone would eventually die from driverless carshttp://on.wsj.com/2GK9pqB

Drive on I75 in Florida, you would think most cars are driverless!

Of course it was going too happen but how is this different from any other fatality caused by driving? Accidents are inevitable.

At least 40,000 people died from auto-related accidents last year (and that's only in the U.S.).

If liberals really cared about protecting our kids they would be banning things like that but they don’t. They just want to take away our guns

This car was not driverless! There was a person sitting behind the wheel apparently participating in this tragedy! What is the role of the person! Should he/she not override the driverless system?

At this point we have no info on the accident so let's not blame the driver for "participating in the tragedy". The pedestrian may have been at fault.

The uproar about this is ridiculous. One death from an autonomous car (certainly tragic) against how many from human-driven cars?

AVs are safer and will increasingly become orders of magnitude safer than human driving. This is unfortunate and we don't know whose fault it is. Regardless, AVs must keep progressing in order to substantially reduce vehicular deaths.
