There is a limit to stupidity. And I hope today’s events are a reminder that too much reliance on machine and too confident of data privacy is completely misplaced. There is nothing free in life and #Facebook just demonstrated it.

If this is vehicular manslaughter who is the defendant? How would there not be a massive wrongful death lawsuit? Who authorized autonomous vehicles to be on our streets? What are the testing/standards? Only winner here seems to be the car services saving on driver costs.

this has no precedent, I believe you could sue Uber, the head of the program and probably some city officials as well, I just see a long case or a hefty settlement

How many human caused accidents have there been today? This week? This year?

Accidents are inevitable. I don’t know the details... If I had to bet? I’d put my money in this being the pedestrian’s fault. Most comments (from emotional clowns) on these topics seem to ignore whether or not these things are actually far safer than human drivers. They are.

the whole project needs to be shuttered --- even the cars are ugly ---- cars will never be self driving. It's like the idea that google had with the drone pizza delivery and Musk has about a colonization of humans living on Mars. Lay off the 420 and get real.

There was a person in the car. Presumably he could apply the brakes and override the autonomous feature. The question is what was he busy doing? Prayers to the family of the victim.

Yet humans kill people with cars daily and no one much bats an eye anymore. Sure, they usually pay for it legally and yet we're ready to bring down the axe on a specific technology bound to do something like this at some point. Really superb.
