Teachers from Kentucky, West Virginia, Oklahoma and Arizona have staged strikes and demonstrations. One reason: states spent 2% less on K-12 education in 2017 than they did in 2008http://on.wsj.com/2u0GADs

But I'll bet the administrators received increases in their paychecks.

And yet the tax rates keep going up to find education. The real problem is HOW the money gets spent.

Yes, Oklahoma’s mandatory revenue declines over the past decade really point to waste in education spending. Another sound bite based on no evidence.

Probably be hated for this but I think all tax money given to colleges and universities be stopped, they have turned to big business. Give the first two years of community college and trade schools free to students. Give all these teachers and professors a livable wage.

Spend more on kids. Not administrators, pensions, buildings, or unsustainable health care benefits. And definitely not political campaign donations that go almost exclusively to one party

Then why do my school/property taxes go up almost every year? Have doubled in ten years while the number of students have declined by 30%. I question the data.

Mill levies are only a portion of the reason your property taxes increase, assuming you’ve had any increases in those. In large part your property is thus more valuable than it was assessed, which makes your investment even better. Congrats.

Pay property taxes in two tranches. One is property tax to the central school system. The second is to the municipality, county and town. Property values in the area, upstate NY, have yet to recover and yes the mils rate has increased. In the end taxes up 2x seats down 39%

Every teacher in this country needs to stand with OK, KY, WV teachers. In Virginia we cannot strike but we can say #notaminutemore as a way to have our voices heard. It is time for change and we, as teachers, must lead it.
