Americans want to buy homes. Nobody is building them: "If I was a young couple today, unless you’re making really good money, what are your options?"http://on.wsj.com/2IzIj63

My Grandmother was building houses for awhile, she said it's WAY cheaper to build than to buy.

Answer there arent any. Banks own a ton of houses they dont want to flood the market and have it crash. So the housing market is overpriced and the buyers that are buying now will be screwed just like they were in 2007/2008

This is totally my worry... here in Salt Lake City, any house under $400k sells in 2 days, anything under $500k in a week. It’s crazy. We bought 2 years ago and have seen a 20% increase in its value in that time. It seems rather unsustainable.

They repealled all the laws from the last crash so banks, mortgage companies are back at their same schemes. The market is going to crash. It isnt sustainable you are right.

When my generation finally has the capital to purchase homes I certainly hope some better ones have been built, because the quality of the homes available to us are trash.

The solution is to buy where you can achieve superior rental returns then rent where you receive compeling value and a desirable residence/ environment! Ie buy to rent in New York or London then reside in Umhlanga rocks South Africa ! Quality of life is stratospheric!

Millennials don’t want to live in car-dependent suburbs with a bunch of dead malls. We need modern urban planning that includes families.

One big factor, mentioned in the article, is local regulation. Every time a fee is increased, or a regulation or ordinance is approved, those costs are passed on to the buyer. Sometimes these costs reach 25% of the total. This is a major issue here in #SanAntonio.
