USA under Trump never had a foreign policy, just had a relation with clients like Saudis and Israel.

You can’t “change” a policy that subsists on impulse-reactions unless, you’re merely installing an amanuensis to facilitate action on those impulses. He’s therefore simply a muppet (doesn’t have a separate unscripted existence) that appears to function independently.

3/ A successful Sec of State must insist on restoring budget of State Department and be willing to speak truth to power. Trump thinks Pompeo is a loyalist.... If Pompeo fulfills his oath of office, he will have to butt heads with Trump's insanity and work well with Mattis...

2/ Pompeo flipped during his confirmation for CIA director from his involvement in torture during GWBush/Cheney years to deny he'd follow such orders and from applauding to denouncing Wikileaks. What he will do if the new Sec of State remains to be seen.

1/ Trump all ready insulted Pompeo by saying he is on "same wavelength" with him. God help us. Pompeo is too hawkish for my liking, has no diplomat experience and lacks knowledge of Asia. If he is a "loyalist" yes-man to Trump's reckless ideas this is a disaster.

i always understood a 'shift in foreign policy' to be some sort of premeditated adjustment, an intentional act, pretty fkin hard thought out move, and not some cnut slipping on a banana skin on the way from the telly to the bathroom. but hey
