Neuroscience says handwriting notes is better for learning- stimulates the brain in a different way. I’d ban laptops during lectures in high school too.

So why don’t they take down notes at court by hand instead of a Steno Machine?

Handwriting notes makes it difficult to actively listen;2 cognitive progesses can't be done effectively together.Professor need to remember their objective;which is to teach new content which has to be heard before it can be comprehended. What benefit is taught by hand note taking

There was a time when the only way to take notes was by hand and some how people still managed to obtain degrees. These kids are just lazy.

Not lazy at all. HandNote taking its very slow, should they be reading to us or teaching us. Let the professors just give digital copies of the notes and they explain as we go along, or give notes before class and we read and ask questions in lectures.

Or maybe the students should learn to take notes correctly, instead of trying to write down every word. The ability to work smarter and not harder is as valuable as any degree.

Are students ever taught the correct way to take notes? This is never done hence that's why they write everything the lecturer utters. The ability to take note of what's important is clouded by the lottery exam scenario. The whole structure needs revision. Note taking exposes

I've had plenty of teachers in middle school, high school and professors in college who all taught me not to write every single word down and take notes properly.....

Research shows that taking notes by hand increases retention and actively engages the brain in critical thinking through filtering content. It's not just about legibility.
