With smartphones everywhere, no one needs old-fashioned watches anymore. Swiss watchmakers are fighting backhttp://on.wsj.com/2tBEdH3

You don’t buy a Rolex, Breitling or Patek Philippe because you want to know what time it is. It’s jewelry.

I carry a 1920s vintage pocket watch (along with an iPhone) everyday.

This makes me sad. I love watches and always will. I still have my grade school Mickey Mouse watch tucked safely away.

You can’t beat a basic watch to do its primary function - tell time. Everything else in a watch is superfluous. Convenient, don’t get me wrong - but still superfluous.

Will be difficult but not impossible to attract new, younger consumers. Probably quite a few brands will die but others will continue to succeed and adapt. However, I don't think it is a good idea to do Swiss smartwatches.

But @FrederiqueConst has a great idea when it comes to which smart features people that actually care about mechanical time pieces will care about, especially the caliber analytics part. Hopefully, their "Hybrid" idea will gain ground with other brands.

Nunca es malo tener un reloj suizo en nuestra muñeca, es bueno tener el pasado creativo e ingenioso junto al presente, para no olvidar los tiempos exitosos ya idos.

Yes, wrist style watches are no longer necessary, however, there are a few thousand of us old schoolers out there. Plus in a few years they will make a come back. Look at the people getting 80's frames for their glasses...
