Funny, those hands don’t cramp while texting. Wow, I sound about a hundred years old.

Research shows that it's better to take notes by hand. When taking by hand students summarize and pick out the main points. By laptop students just do verbatim and lose opportunity to grow important skills.

I hear where profs are coming from & fully confess to surfing during most (read: all) my law school classes. Even hand writers zone out. But it’s harder to digest all the info w/out typing, then synthesizing at the end. If a class is interesting, ppl will be engaged regardless

That's the way we had to learn. Some can't write in cursive. They can't tell time by the hands. And they can't count money back...The old days were working. You took prayer/mediation, butty smacking (or in the hand) out of the schools. and OOPS, there it is.

I wish middle and high school teachers spent a little time teaching kids how to take notes. It's such a crucial skill to have.

Banning might be a little much, but I’m very much for bringing back hand writing. From personal experience I also prefer reading and writing on paper.

have no sympathy for these students. went to college before calculators and computers. took notes at every class. it was 1 to 3 hours of note taking. trouble with handwriting then practice it. i can do perfect manuscript and cursive handwriting.

Good for you. In the meantime, one will have to then transfer the same notes back to a computer, for when one has to write their assignments. Which is done electronically. "I didn't have that option, so fuck people wasting their time for nothing."? Nice.

Why on earth would they have to do that? Handwritten notes may be referred to while studying and composing. That’s what they’re for.

So instead of having everything on your laptop, you will have to have your laptop oepn and at least one notebook with your notes, switching between the two. Because... that's convenient? Half of my uni notebooks are electronic, same as journals and other resources I use.

i know from experience that a person can write faster with cursive. had two years of typing but my experience was in the days without technology. to improve handwriting one has to practice it. there is also shorthand. an electronic device is limited by its battery life.

am not arguing, my experience has to do with age. colleges have changed over time. feel sorry for students that have to pay such high tuition. that is all we had in those days of yesteryear. the people that knew shorthand were one up on us.
