        Gee, maybe because our region sends the federal government a significant amount of tax revenue? Or perhaps because this region is so densely populated that its crucial to our "nation's" economy.

        They just found the tunnel because the rest of United States benefits from the financial institutions and trade that is done there. The states of New York and New Jersey pay and More in federal taxes than they get back. So it's it's a net, net gain
