Nice sound bite that means nothing. Our defense industry uses 3% of our steel production, and production has risen 5 years straight with rising prices already. This is politics helping friends.

What about the other end of the spectrum? Foreign capital investment? The deficit is driven by the influx of foreign capital investment. You cannot have one without the other.
#economics -
So you want other countries to control much of our domestic businesses and real estate? And you think that chart is fine then? Not an
#Economist but I think a far better balance is needed. -
Foreign investments also translates to jobs. Foreign companies have companies that produces jobs as well. 50 years ago, protectionism helped deficit, now its the other way around.
-
btw, domestic investment creates jobs. There's actually no argument here
#economics. What would you rather have, your country owning more or your country being owned? Protectionism is being done to us with no recourse. -
The idea of being owned is simple economics. Macro global economics sees and understands the complexity of market investment and supply chain and don’t use simple tariffs to create a trade war.
-
tell that to future largest consumer economy - https://www.export.gov/article?id=China-Import-Tariffs … . It's not "ethnocentric" to desire a strong, sustainable economy where you live for you and your children. It's not "ethnocentric" to want level playing field.
