Tariffs bring cheers but stoke fears of trade wars, rising costs and layoffs across U.S. industrieshttp://on.wsj.com/2HY3Ogf

Fear, apathy&inertia are the hallmarks of the post WWII generations; not just in trade but in virtually every aspect of modern day life. Many of the failures of our institutions & businesses are due to the inability of our citizens to confront any challenging or distasteful task.

Do you have less or more money in your pocket because you can buy a tv or cell phone cheaper that is made in China? How about shoes/clothing? Do you enjoy paying a cheaper price for this goods?

Tough, part of progress is "a change to the normal way of doing things" a change to "the status quo" or removing old and inneficient processes for replacement with more efficient, cost effective and environmentally sustainable ones.

Dumping steel in the Pacific Ocean so people don't lose their jobs is not acceptable American behavior.

Dumping steal in the Pacific Ocean in order to feed a family that lives overseas is not acceptable behavior for an American.

Whatever the case may be for raw steel to end up in the Pacific Ocean, this is a way to slow down unneeded waste. President Trump may also have other reasons for the steel and aluminum tariffs which will have a ripple effect and is exploring mining for metals at home.

Mining for metals at home will have environmental impacts to the United States in the same way that switching to solar created plastic waste that had a greater environmental impact than remaining on fossil fuels. It will also affect the economies of US allies and trade partners.

This is a consequence for an entire industry because a group of businesses decided that they know what is best for the US economy and tried to circumvent obstacles to business growth by destroying an environment that is critical to the continuation of human life.

USA companies will be moving more jobs back to USA. Look at Apple and Chrysler already.

This is what happens when fools rush in. Any action of the President of the free world has ramifications and therefore must be thoroughly analyzed, strategically planned, and carefully vetted and not just casually blurted out on a whim

More jobs have been lost to technology than free trade. Free trade is a good thing.

Free trade would be a good thing...if anyone were doing it. But, if you’re the only one living by that standard, you’ll get screwed. Get rid of the central banks, then we can start talking free trade
