Maybe there are “common sense” gun restrictions that could do some good. But that would first require an honest debate, writes @wjmcgurn for @wsjopinionhttp://on.wsj.com/2FkBIxg

Mister @wjmcgurn and @wsjopinion what is very evident and cristal clear is that the school shooting survivors are showing us adults, like you and me, unable to solve the big problem that are mass shootings. Just for that, they deserve my respect and my listening. #NeverAgain 💚💙

The only thing childish about the current gun debate is the position that the NRA and the politicians in it’s pocket take, refusing to acknowledge the indisputable fact that unrestricted access to guns are the problem. Apparently the students are the only adults in the room.

You don't find people calling Rubio a murderer being childish? I certainly do. There is room for improvement on both sides. The gun control advocates' hyperbole contributes greatly to the problem.

I don’t see why you can’t consider people complicit who have the power to implement regulations to try and prevent these things from happening but take hush money instead. I believe that’s the sentiment behind it

I would submit to you that there are laws and regulations in place already. Does that mean we can't look at it and debate improvements? Of course not. Cruz should have never had a weapon, but the cops already knew that. Common sense, constitutional solutions should be discussed.

Gun restrictions leave ppl defenseless. Where there are more guns in the hands of the law-abiding crime is reduced. Govt has murdered 10s of millions of their own disarmed defenseless ppl. Expanding concealed carry would have prevented &/or stopped mass murder gun free zones.

Actually we do have car control. Speed limits, insurance, driver's license/training, smarter cars being manuf. These do prevent more accidents. I am not a gun control guy, but there are changes we can make.

Right, but to say that weapons are the cause of death is a lot of incoherence. Guns alones don't kill people, but people kill people be it with firearms, knives, sticks... Prohibiting the sale of weapons is not the solution.

Sorry but the debate is over on assault weapons. There is no place for assault weapons in civilian’s hands. None. Same for background checks. Period. Until we see these changes there will be no further debate. #ThrowThemOut #NEVERAGAIN #BanAssaultWeapons #marchforourlives

So no thoughts on the policy framework that should be debated? Just a summary of the problem? This is weak.
