Remembering that Ryan became speaker only because no one else wanted the job.

The logic of the article seems tautological. The house makes and amends its own rules through votes of its members. I can't imagine what Galston's real point is other than to make sure we elect Dems. Except for that, what exactly needs "fixing"?

And the GOP doesn't try to make legislation by debating the issues with the Democrats. Making laws is supposed to be feeding off of each other's ideas & trying to improve them for the betterment of our society. GOP has fallen far short of trying to engage Dems & vice versa.

Really like the idea of 60% required to elect Speaker. Makes a lot of sense.

You are right. Keep him in place and dump poloser, durmbo and Dim leadership. Then quit reading the Wimps St Journal. That will fix it.

Stop with that special interest bull crap! You fix it by ending political gerrymandering! Safe politicians don't respect the voters. Term limits just reduce the amount of knowledge about how to govern and puts lobbyists in charge.

Can’t end gerrymandering it’s been around since the 1700’s, check the newspapers from back then. Have to change the constitution and legislators having state control of setting up districts. Ain’t happening. Term limits!!!

Yes, you can end it. There is a majority on the court that agree it needs to go but are waiting for a good test to be presented. The current case in front of them has a good one.

You need to change the constitution to get the district maps out of the hands of the legislature.Courts cannot do that, only the people can change the constitution. The courts can say they don’t like the way the maps are set up, but cannot set them up themselves. Simple
