“...tapping your smartwatch to pay.” Seriously. I guess they forgot that poor people live here that don’t have smart watches or smart phones. what about elderly who show their Medicare card? Ridiculous. Get the trains run on time first!

Exactly @MTA this is a #socioeconomic disaster. People have #prepaid #nophones .What happens when your phone is #lost and no method to pay

It mainly allows payment via contactless bank card which are becoming standard, or by a prepaid contactless card. They've had this system in London for a few years and it's excellent. It also accepts phone and watch but it's slower and few use it

You realize a significant portion of the NYC population is too poor to open a bank account right? So until postal banking is a thing in NY, NJ and CT this is not an option.

They use it in Japan as well. You don’t need a bank account or smart device. You can purchase the card just like you would today’s metro card. Instead of the machine spitting out these old, outdated cards, they’ll spit out contactless cards. Look up Suica cards used in Japan.

I have a card like that to get into my building. It identifies that I live there. I wave it past the scanner through my bag. Although it will quickly be outdated by face recognition technology. I prefer @MTA fix the tracks & get trains to run more frequently & on time.

💡How about starting with the @MTA getting us to and from ON TIME WITHOUT HAVING TO HUNGER GAMES MY WAY ON TO A TRAIN? Then we can talk about prettier turnstiles. 🤦🏽‍♂️pic.twitter.com/aVBQ3wazkp

I found one of these while cleaning my house & I was thrilled! I wish they’d bring them back but they make too much money from unused Metrocards. I absolutely don’t trust or want electronic payment of any kind with them.

Right the expiration on metro cards is just a way for city to get more revenue

Right, but it isn't like you get sent a reminder that the card is expiring. If you are not a daily user sometimes you find out at the turnstile

NYC residents already pay crazy city tax. The problem is deblasio wastes it on other things instead of funding the subway

Diblasio doesn’t control the subway. The governor does.

Deblasio is on the hook for at least half the funding and he refuses to pay.
