Opinion: Maybe there are “common sense” gun restrictions that could do some good. But that would first require an honest debate.http://on.wsj.com/2HPbHVt

You mean like the "honest debate" that preceded the Garland nomination stall? Or the tax giveaway? Or the gutting of the EPA?

Just pointing out that "honest debate" -- whatever that is -- doesn't seem to be a prerequisite for Congressional action generally.

There are certainly legitimate gun restrictions that can be implemented, but the conversation also has to examine the many other root causes of this recent dangerous phenomena. When the Left admits guns alone are not the sole cause, we may be able to make some headway. #complex

No. No debate needed. Banning assault rifles does not need debate. Stop it.

Perhaps start with psychiatric meds then? At least that could get the conversation moving towards how we should pay more attention to how people are taking mind altering substances and buying guns at the same time...

I think you need common sense to be able to make common sense gun laws. It's a prerequisite.

And before we have a good debate, the left needs to actually acquire knowledge of firearms

Why can our politicians engage in debate regarding the opioid crisis, but not the gun crisis? Opioids are more regulated than firearms. Let me guess, “guns don’t kill people”.

First start would be to admit what the 2nd amendment really means - well regulated state militia that does not apply to all people.
