Coral Springs PD told him this same day. Investigation doesn’t take that long. A cover up does.

Gross incompetency, blame-shifting & victim exploitation by this Sheriff. He had videos, he knew these & Petersen failed to do their job but sat at the town hall & blamed others. Now he has armed guards at the homes of the cowardly officers. Unacceptable #ResignSheriffIsrael

Are you kidding me! That shooting happened 11 days ago. There is no reason the Sheriff shouldn’t have an executive summary of what happened by now. Believe me, if any of his deputies entered that building when the shooting was in progress those deputies would put before cameras

Shouldn't an outside independent investigator be assigned to do that??

I got into a debate with a Liberal about guns in schools. Guns have zero power without a willing human to engage the aggressor. Every teacher and student can be armed but if none are willing to take action the aggressor will encounter zero resistance. Key word, WILLING.

if paid, trained sheriffs won't enter, why would anyone reasonably expect an educator to be able to take down a shooter?

Excellent question. The military wants the young because they are more WILLING to charge in battle that an older person. Willing are invincible. Cautious think about death and those left behind. Trained willing wants maximum protection, SWAT. I pray I will be WILLING.

I don't know. Firefighters walk into buildings that are burning. As you would say, willingly. The trained sheriff's deputy was a pure coward and he failed his badge and those kids.

I agree, he is an embarrassment. Most firefighters are young while the leadership is older. That is not to say older people will not set aside themselves for others but they are fewer than the young. We Were Soldiers is a good movie; only one was above 40 & I want to be like him.

Most firefighters are young while the leadership is older? 🤔😂 There are only so many positions for leadership and desk type jobs. Trust that there are many FFs who are lifelong FF, and retire at that rank. Those old timers run into those burning buildings.

An independent authority needs to investigate the Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Israel's department should not investigate itself.

Can anyone tell us (in UK) what type of weapons armed guards at a school normally carry? Are they any match for an AR 15? Thanks.

Probably a handgun. Usually a 9mm. Someone well trained in shooting one can take out a person shooting a rifle. Problem is that if the shooter is wearing a vest, the aim has to be really good to take them down with a handgun.

Thanks that's what we guessed. Presumably most hand guns only take say six rounds before they have to be reloaded with another clip? (You can tell we are British can't you!)

Usually the 9mm clip holds 15 rounds and one in the chamber. Some hold more but I don't think most law enforcement have those as standard issue weapons.

Thanks Jackie, that's more than I thought. We introduced gun control here after a dreadful mass school shooting at Dunblane, Scotland in 1996 and we haven't had another one since so it is heartbreaking to see the MSD tragedy after Columbine, Sandy Hook and others.

I remember that. So tragic. The sticking point here is the 2nd amendment in our constitution and strong gun lobbies. Most legal gun owners don't go on killing sprees. No one can agree on causation or what to do when there is a mass shooting.
