My children are grown, but when they were young, I had a long commute between work and daycare which was my private time. A luxury was going to a hair salon or spa (which was a rare event).

My mom, w five kids, bowled on a league for many years. Couple of hours a week doing “her thing” w her friends probably kept her sane. Fast forward to today. I play in a community band niece a week. Couple of hours doing “my thing” w my friends probably keeps me sane.

Going to the dentist and getting my dentures was the most social time I got last year, worth the money and bus fare.

My escape was always withdrawing and drinking alone. It was a breeze, really, until I realized the consequences and the deep pain I was trying to mask. Still, I was creative AF when I’d hide pints of Stoli around the house. (11yrs sober now)
