Federal and state policy makers have long struggled with how to keep firearms away from dangerously disturbed people without stigmatizing mental illness or violating civil liberties. This time is no differenthttp://on.wsj.com/2CqI1d8

White male privilege: When a grown white man w/an AR-15 assault rifle mass murders 17 children & gets arrested calmly—while a 12-year-old black child w/a toy gun harms no one & gets executed in 1.7 seconds.😐 #ParklandShooting #TamirRice

This person must be carefully studied, we need to learn why he did what he did, what he reads, what video games he plays, what does he watch on tv, how his family interacts, make him a perfect specimen, I’m sure we have him for LIFE, make the most of it. Learn what caused this!

A "troubled past" doesn't imply mental illness. A hostile person isn't necessarily mentally ill. Unless someone is diagnosed they can act however they want and not be legally classified as mentally ill. Or some may be diagnosed after they've done something but then it's too late.

That’s ludicrous, no 18yr old should be able to buy a semi-automatic assault weapon, period...........

As the brother of a mentally ill brother whose family cannot even bring him off the streets because his "rights" to not be stigmatized are more important than his very survival, quit already. Mentally ill, is ill, they need to taken care of and watched.

I've hated gun control forever, but now believe to purchase and own a military grade assault rifle like a AR 15 you should be required to have a concealed weapons permit. If you cannot pass a background check for a concealed permit you shouldn't be able to own a AR 15.

Calling mental illness by its name is not stigmatizing it, its realizing it exists and needs to be carefully watched. And the don't need guns or any other deadly objects when they're diagnosed. Libs need to stop trying put them into the general population.
