It's time to bring back civil debate on our college campuses and in our society at large, writes law professor Amy Wax http://on.wsj.com/2F5qvOF pic.twitter.com/ezpY8nuOPj

So pleased to see sound & reasoned judgement from Professor Amy Wax. Much needed to counter balance the contemporary censorship via political correctness in our media & society at large.

To answer Ms. Waxman's question, "No." It is no longer possible to have substantive arguments [can we not say "discussions"?] about divisive issues. Civility, respect, and decorum are absent from our society at large. Everyone talks; no one listens.

And with this, our people line up in opposition to one another, refusing discourse, setting us up for serious civil disorder or worse!

Organizations with a history of inciting violence should be made to post a deposit in escrow. NOTE: BOTH sides have been played by the Russians - ANY extreme position is almost certainly an indefensible one...

You mean as opposed to Marxist safe spaces and the curbing of others rights to Freedom of Speech and Expression? But... but... people might get offended and, even worse, feel UNSAFE!!!!!! in the face of opinions and perspectives that challenge their own!pic.twitter.com/ckhTfay6Zp

Alas, for Wax, “civil debate” is a term of art. And includes refusing to engage with substantive critics and seeking to have others silenced. I completely support her right to speak and write freely, but free speech doesn’t mean free from (even harsh) criticism.

For someone that seems to value the "marketplace of ideas" they sure didn't get the memo when the marketplace told them their ideas sucked so now they're complaining about college liberals instead lol

Amy Wax is lying in this article. She distorts truth, so she can remain in the spotlight.

I know Twitter has a very limited format for response, but is there any way for you to share with me, what evidence supports your claim that she is lying in this article?

I wonder though, why then do democracies elect leaders who do neither (talk/debate)?

Go for it, Professor Wax. Meanwhile all the conservatives in Seattle have to hide for fear of being called one or more of those ugly names.

I’m happy to be wrong but his argument about lack of free speech on campus seems to come up only when a white supremisist wants to speak on campus. I highly doubt there are problems with conservative speakers who not racist or xenophobes. Please provide examples.
