YouTube and Facebook should stand by their consumers and content creators (basically everyone with the internet). Unilever is going to ignore these platforms? I doubt it.

Content creators shouldn’t pretend being what they aren’t. If you are an entertainer say so. Don’t camouflage yourself as a journalist. Opinion pieces should be marked as opinions, not facts as well.

What credentials are required for a person to define themselves as a journalist? What is the standard? Do you need a degree to have an opinion? It is difficult to cite to a single article that does not include both fact & opinion & persuasion.

If one cannot personally verify the facts or doesn’t use facts verified by reputable organizations (I mean the ones which require conformation for publications) that person should admit being an opinion writer.

Reputable organizations? Reputable to whom? Identify a single, widely known, reputable organization and I guarantee there are millions who would scoff at the “reputable” label.

I know that you will disregard this but it won’t make less true: WaPo, NYT requires verification of facts and sources, even anonymous ones (anonymous to a reader, but credible to a journalist and editors). For them it’s a rule. They do make mistakes of course, but they admit that.

At least someone is trying to stop the spread of fraudulent information. @fbnewsroom, @facebook and @Twitter have moral responsibility which they ignore. Maybe it will change when they see $$$ going away!?

So false speech should be suppressed? Who is to judge the truth in these matters?

False speech should start and finish with IMO. Or the platforms should put a disclaimer or a Warning: UNVERIFIED INFORMATION or simply a LIE.

False speech? Most speech is in dispute. By this standard, your last tweet would have to include “IMO” - if it didn’t, what should happen? I don’t think anyone should be compelled to include IMO, UNVERIFIED INfORMATION, or LIE when they post to the internet. - IMO
