Processions, meetings, military parades, lectures, waxwork displays, film shows, telescreen programs all had to be organized; stands had to be erected, effigies built, slogans coined, songs written, rumours circulated, photographs faked. George Orwell, 1984

Not like the parade money wouldn’t be better spent on, say, the V.A.

Wouldn’t spending this money (and then some) on the V.A. be a better way of showing how much we care for our military?

Costly isn’t all...We are literally going to throw a military parade for a reality TV star. This might as be the whole “My button is bigger than yours” and let me show it off to the world. As if the world doesn’t already know our military presence and prowess. #DictatorTrump

Of all Trump’s experienced so far as president, the one thing that seems to have resonated with him is France’s military parade. Says a lot.

Costly, but worth it as a way of sending a message to those who value a good parade ... hey, #NorthKorea, #China, #Russia ... #USA is just joining the message sending crowd! #Trump gets the idea of a visual message.

Hard to be publicly against our military parading. Just like it's hard to be publicly against border security. This is classic Trump, boxing his adversaries into a losing position.

It’s not hard to be against a military parade, this is America, not some rinky dink third world dictatorship. Everyone knows we have the most powerful military in the world, no need to show off, it’s a waste of time and money.

You are right. But it is also true that average Americans just see it as a celebration of our military (where their sons and daughter serve). The average Joe will see Trump as right on this parade and detractors as anti-American. I don't agree, but this is another win for Trump.
