America barely even has high-speed rail on one route and the Shinkansen has never had a fatality. HSR isn't the problem; poor management and a lack of investment are the issues.

We just don’t apply our technology well in rail. If investigated and committed we could be a leader again. Look at our leadership in aviation.
-
Also, Amtrak has been mismanaged from the start. We need someone with vision to rebuild the whole concept of rail. Musk has an interesting approach.

Ask the Germans and the Japs about how they manage their high-speed trains. Less mishaps.
-
The Germans andJapanese are rule following people. Won't even cross street with no cars coming unless street sign says "Cross". Americans don't care about rules and try to beat trains at crossings - it's cultural.

The fastest time from new York to washington dc was set by a steam engine almost a 100 years ago. What does that tell you?

Not sure what Amtrak struggles on its network of mostly freight owned non-grade separated tracks has to do with potential of HSR that, unless designed by an idiot, should be fully grade separated.

Well it works in many countries including densely populated Japan. So let’s just stop slandering the high speed train. America needs high speed train and low carbon alternative. Surely, high speed is a better alternative than EVs because we don’t have to overthrow African govts

Wow! An absolutely myopic look at this issue. The current state of rail travel should stand in the way of solving problems.
