I suspect that the biggest issue, not addressed here, is that a great many boards want only people with public company CEO or CFO experience. The pool of women in this category is small, and I suspect most of them are approached for a seat once they reach their late fifties.

I'm all for equality, but you can be criticized for picking the most qualified person. It's exasperating. Like quick let in 5 women so we can (are allowed) to choose a qualified man. It's a sink or swim position, you can't hand out roles undeservingly

Agree 100% on best candidate won but it’s hard to believe only 2% of the US female population is qualified to lead a board. That’s stat doesn’t add.
