Yes. Anyone in manuf that delivers to Japan knows that quality expectations are way higher than rest of world. Yes all pressures cited on Japan are correct. Not surprising some cheat (remember VW) - how does that invalidate the model? Corp is corp everywhere.

The WSJ also writes an annual article about how Just-in-Time is too risky and doesn’t work anymore. Shows a lack of understanding more than any vendetta against Lean or “Japanese practices”

That's a rather click-baitish headline after reading the article. The manufacturing model is not to blame (it obviously worked) but rather those who claimed to follow the model but *did not* in Japan. As a respected news organization, perhaps a little restraint.

Sadly, that's pretty much how wsj has been on Asia for the past few years, not usually as misleading as this one, but not being thorough has become a norm... FT handles Asia much better

All too often headlines these days are clickbait-ish and not written by journalists who wrote the piece, sadly. Story is good and needed to be told but indeed doesn’t say the manufacturing model is wrong. Honest attempt at not generalising, as well.

Yeah they started sending their manufacturing to China cause it’s cheaper. Sorry nose, face be damned.
