Opinion: The problem with U.S. health care is that the cost of a service is disconnected from underlying value. Patients don’t know the price of services. Bezos, Buffett and Dimon should keep this in mindhttp://on.wsj.com/2DVtXya

My hope is they have a breakthrough. A lot of brain trust with this trio. Eager for their results.

As long as "healthcare" is part of "employee benefits", those getting them will be detached from costs & tend to just spend/use. There's little incentive to use wisely when it's not truly owned, paid for by individual. Direct pay Docs: https://aapsonline.org/direct-payment-cash-friendly-practices/ … @AAPSonline

How can you fix Health Care Ins when Physicians costs can have 3 different amounts of billing for the same procedure, cash, insurance and welfare insurance? And if Physicians are charged outrageous liability ins those costs are passed onto patients. We r getting double billed!!!

its even worse: not only don't they know the cost of care, in most part they don't care and feel they should get what they want regardless of cost (which they shouldn't have to pay)

No, the problem with U.S. primary health care is that the consumer of the service is shielded from the real cost of making the consumption decision by insurance. Primary care insurance is a hideous and destructive Ponzi scheme. #MAGA RT

Employers should give employees $ (like HSAs) for health insurance premiums, deductibles and co-pays as part of compensation and let them spend it how they want. They would spend it more wisely comparison shopping

Seriously? True. They don't know the price, but more importantly, they don't know what they'll need, & they pray they won't need it.

Oh, that’s *the* problem, is it? The problem isn’t that health care is an essential service and public good forced into a series of for-profit systems that drive costs well beyond what the average citizen could ever pay for preventive care, let alone in the event of emergency.

Another major problem w/ the healthcare issue(s) is the consistent rise in employment mobility, compared to the trends of the mid-20th century, particularly shrinking tenures resulting from voluntary turnover.

There is at least 30% waste and 15% profit - plenty of margin of opportunity to get this right

The price is irrelevant as you can't cross-shop hospitals, etc. You aren't buying a car or a fridge. You're buying insurance that should cover WHATEVER HAPPENS at an affordable price.
